Black and Brown

I have a legitimate excuse for taking so long to blog this time: midterms. I think they went okay, i.e, I probably did well enough that they won't throw me out for a while. Hopefully all B's at least.

But, the weekend before midterms was really cool. First there was the football game against Brown (at which we dominated), which was immediately followed by our second fountain gig of the season, at which we were joined by the Brown band. They're awesome. They're like our brothers, equally goofy and lewd. We threw a party for them that night, and a freshman from Brown and I teamed up at foosball to win like ten games in a row. Very exciting.

Then Sunday night was awesome. Lewis Black! Need I say more? No. But I will anyway. He was hilarious, as expected, though I had heard much of his material before, like the candy corn bit. I'd say he was worth the ten dollars two or three times over.

After that, though, my week quickly slid downhill. But, as a stress reliever, I got to watch the Red Sox KICK THE CRAP OUT OF THE YANKEES! Can anyone say "Biggest Choke Ever"? But, I don't think people are giving enough credit to the Sox. Everyone talks about the choke on the Yankees' part, but not about the amazing comeback on the part of the Red Sox. Oh well. Either way, those cocky, arrogant Yankees (and their cocky, arrogant fans) get what's been coming for decades.

In the end, I made it through midterms week, and this weekend was as fun as the last one. Thursday night (the last night before fall break) was what's called "Princton Halloween." My roommate and I threw together costumes at the last minute and went to some Halloween parties. I was a ghost, or more accurately, a person with a sheet thrown over my head with eyeholes cut into it. My costume was a real hit, as it was surprisingly creative compared to most female costumes. As far as I can tell, they were all dressed as hookers...?

Friday night was band low stakes poker night. We did it tournament style, with a two dollar buy-in. I totally won first place, along with a cash prize of nine dollars! I'm a regular Joey Knish, eh?

Satuday was the Harvard game, which wasn't nearly as fun as the Brown game, as we got crushed, and by the most annoying of schools. They're band wasn't even cool. They played a Britney Spears tune, for crying out loud! Harvard was actually in town for football, soccer, hockey, and glee club, and they just kind of got more annoying every time I interacted with them. I'm sure there are lots of great people at Harvard, but apparently there are some real assholes, too. Oh well. Guess that's why I don't go there.

Peace out, and good job reading this freakin' long blog!

Ahh, the parents...and Keith...

As predicted, it was an eventful weekend with the family coming to Princeton. Overall, they were very well behaved and very generous. There were a few bloggable events, though.

I don't think they're used to walking very much. I kind of walk (or bike) everywhere, so the walking we did this weekend was no big deal. They seemed a little fatigued, though. Lightweights...

Anyway, we went to the Phantom of the Opera on friday. Now I know what it was like to see movies in the roaring twenties (which should come in handy). What's nice about silent, black and white movies is that they can't hide a bad plot behind flashy special effects, etc. Naturally, then, the story line was high quality. Poor phantom...they beat him to death and throw him in a lake!

Saturday, we mostly took it easy. Walked around the mall, around campus, etc. But then, I made the mistake of taking them to the math building. John Nash still has an office there, and Keith wanted to go see it. No big deal. But, as fate would have it, he was there, working, with the door open. As you can probably predict, Keith, Mom, and Jan sort of waltz right in (their defense is that they knocked and said "excuse me") and interrupt him. It was super awkward, as they didn't really have much to say apart from "I saw A Beautiful Mind." Luckily, I don't think any third parties spotted us, and we managed to escape in under a minute. On a side note, as we were leaving, we heard the door to his office close. John Nash, for Christ's sake!

Oh well. They only embarrassed my once (although it was more of a mortification, or something more hardcore than embarrassment), and that not in front of anyone who knew me. Plus they bought me some snack food and three meals out.

All in all, parental visit was 99% really good, 1% horrible.

Comedy, and The Great Dorm Flood of 2004

It is my habit to update my blog on my computer, at my desk, in my room. However, today I have to do it in the library. Why? Because a toilet erupted (for lack of a better term) and there are a couple of inches of water all over the entire first and second floors of 1939 Hall right now. In other words, I got flooded out.

Note to self: Cherry bombs + Toilet = Bad. Just kidding, of course. Wouldn't want to be suspected of terrorism.

On the up side (so "up" in fact that it makes the whole water all over the floor thing rather insignificant), LEWIS BLACK IS COMING TO PRINCETON! I got in line before tickets even went on sale and got floor seats for ten bucks! It's tempting to try to sneak a video camera in for Rhonda's sake, but I don't have one. That might be a good thing, though, as any electronic devices stored in my room may be subject to water damage.

Oh well. By this weekend, I'm sure the flood will be all kinds of funny. I'm pretty amused as it is.

'Bout time.

I can't believe how long it's been, but now that I think about it, I haven't had a whole crapload of stuff to blog about in the past couple of weeks.

San Diego was fun. The band played in one of the USD libraries, and our conducter had to explain our actions to the campus police. Many of the upperclassmen say that if the band's officers aren't constantly in danger of being arrested, then we aren't doing our job. So the San Diego trip had its share of Mayhem. Plus, Princeton won. And this week, they won again, making them 3-0! Considering that last season we won a total of two games, this is all very exciting.

That's really about all that's been going on. But, the 'rents will be in town next weekend. Should be lots of fun, lots of quality blogging.

Peace.
